Cheesesteak sandwiches, the Liberty Bell, and “brotherly love” all made their mark on Chip Simmons who was born and raised in Philadelphia. What’s more, Jesus made His mark on Chip. Infusing Chip’s love for sports, life, Jesus, and others, God recruited Chip to help athletes (and anyone else he meets) to experience the freedom and love that only Jesus can ultimately, and authentically, provide.
Chip grabbed hold of the relationship Jesus offered him when he was a talented, young athlete who was not nearly as put together when it came to faith and life. As Chip grew in his relationship with Jesus, he began to recognize the opportunity sports provides in bringing people together and providing an arena for deeper conversations about the kind of life Jesus wants for every one of us—whether star athletes or everyday, ordinary people.
Chip’s connection to college and professional sports over the past three decades has provided opportunities, experiences, and stories of God’s powerful transformation that engage and challenge audiences of all ages, races, sizes, and places. In addition to having served numerous years as Urban Director with FCA in Philadelphia and Denver, Chip has served in ministry to numerous professional and college sports teams. As well as his involvement with the Philadelphia Phillies baseball organization for over 20 years, Chip served as Chaplain for the Philadelphia 76ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Colorado Crush, and the University of Colorado football team. Chip is the founder and president of After the Game Ministries that gives former athletes the tools and support needed to manage the game of life beyond the playing field.
Chip likes sports. Chip loves people. And Chip can’t wait to share with athletes and anyone else who will listen about the kind of winning and ultimate fulfilment that they can experience living up-close to Jesus.
