Yawning or Yearning?
“There is none like You, O Lord; You are great, and great is Your name in might.”
Jeremiah 10:6
An excerpt from The Four Chairs?
by Adrian Despres
We just don’t take people for granted. We take God for granted, too. We start out excited about Him. We live to serve Him. But as the months and years go by, our love for Him grows cold. We stop searching the depths of God’s love. We somehow imagine Him as less than He is, and we believe the lie that it’s no big deal to know Him.
I’ve just described what happens with people who are sitting in the second chair. They’re Christians who’ve been around the church for so long that God is not as important to them as He should be. They sing songs and listen to sermons about Jesus, but sadly, they’ve lost their love for Him.
Have I just described you? Is this the chair you’re sitting in?
Over time, passion fades and love grows cold. It’s time for you to return to your first love.
Challenge
Assess where you are right now in your love and passion for God on a scale of 1-10: 1 (stone cold) to 10 (red hot). Talk to God about your answer.
Commit to taking one action step with God this week that will help move you closer to making Him the first love of your life.
