But soon a fierce storm came up.
High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.
Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.
It continues to amaze me how Jesus, being God, took on flesh and shared the frailty of humanity. Jesus was thirsty, hungry, felt anguish, and at times, was exhausted! Can you relate?
The fierce storm mentioned in today´s verse was a big storm! Mark talks about the storm like we talk about earthquakes. I´ve been in a few big earthquakes. They’re no joke. Apparently, neither was this storm. And Jesus, exhausted, slept right through it.
Ever been so worn from the activities of a day, a wearisome circumstance, or a tough season of life that you’d sleep right through a fierce storm? If so, Jesus knows what you’re experiencing.
That’s our loving “with us” Lord. He understands our humanity, even at our lowest points and most fragile conditions. How much so? Jesus, God in flesh, willingly suffered and died a human death so that you and I might have life.
Through fierce storms and sunny days alike, Jesus is worth trusting. He alone is both “one with the Father” (John 10:30) and knows what it’s like in our skin.
Consider places in your life that leave you weary and worn.
Talk to Jesus about them. Ask Him to give you rest as you trust Him.
