Mission Minded

All three Experience teams have arrived at their various destinations! We are so thankful you can partner with us to pray for the students and staff. Praise God for all that He has already done and will continue to do during this international phase! See below for complete updates from each team.

The Haiti group was able to meet two missionaries Forge partners with, Maya and Carl, after they landed. They talked with them about the culture and their work before they started the six hour drive to Fauche where they’re staying with Cory, Kris, Eli and Anna Thede.

The drive from the airport to Fauche was beautiful, filled with an adventurous three hours of mountain switchbacks that made the ride anything but boring. The team got to see a lot of Haiti, including the coast and the town where fellow Experience student, David, is from. They had some short stops where they had the opportunity to play with kids and provide food for them.

Following breakfast, the team headed out to the market and bakery with Cory. They then toured the campus, which consists of the medical buildings and school buildings. After lunch the team played sports with some kids and then started a prayer walk around town in two different groups. Both groups visited about eight local homes, prayed for anything the families needed prayer for and sang hymns in Creole. All the Haitians were open to prayer even if they weren’t believers. The evening was filled with delicious supper (chicken gravy on Haitian bread and Haitian cake), devotions and quality fellowship.

“We got to see a bakery owned by a friend of the Thedes and went through the busy town market to get a better feel for the culture. When we got back we got a chance to meet some of the kids on the campus and play soccer with them.” (Josh Zimmerman, Team Leader)

The Haiti team having fun with children, as well has having the opportunity for outreach!

The team arrived at Isaac’s house, a previous Experience student and now ministry partner. The team leader, Nate, said that introductions to their host team, led by Isaac, were very inspiring and it was amazing to hear their hearts for ministry in the villages, where the team will be engaging. Isaac’s passion for Forge and sharing his ministry in Mexico was very tangible to everyone.

The group then ventured to the mountain community of Guachochi, where they’ve been able to take in the beauty of the countryside! Mountains and rolling hills are covered with scrub grass and bush trees and the team is excited for more ministry opportunities in this community. Already, they have seen one woman saved!

“After eating an authentic Mexican lunch we felt God leading us to give some leftover tortas (sandwiches) from breakfast to a young mother with 3 children on the street. She surrenders her life to the Bread of Life, Jesus. Pray with us for her!” (Nate Hoot, Team Leader)

The team had a long night in the airport and a full day of car and plane travel, but all arrived in Honduras healthy and in good spirits!

The group met and prayed for the team at Urban Promise Honduras (UPH) where their host, and former Experience student, Marcia works. Finally, they spent some time prayer walking the town of Copan Ruinas asking God what He is up to there. The team is doing great and is excited for what God has in store for the following days!

“Team Honduras is thriving in Honduras! Praise God! We had much needed sleep last night and spent the morning in a mountain village playing games, singing songs, sharing gifts, praying for families, and loving people. What a memorable time!” (Loren Hayes, Team Leader)
