Annie, a 2015 Experience Teammate

The Experience is almost two months away! As we approach the summer, we’d like to invite you into the story God has already been writing in the lives of our 2015 Experience team. We asked Annie to share about her journey approaching The Experience, and this is what she shared.

LZ: How did God lead you to apply for The Experience?

AM: At the first mention of The Experience a couple years ago, my honest feeling was that I could never do it!

But God kept bringing it to mind over and over, almost every day. A couple of my friends participated in it the next summer, and again, God kept speaking to my heart. When one friend returned we went to coffee, he was so on fire and passionate for God—I could see the real change that happened in his life.

I realized I needed to stop over-thinking what I thought God was saying. The Experience was the next step God was leading me to take! I began to embrace God’s voice, felt His confirmation in it, and took the step.

“Yes, Annie, I’m bringing all this to mind on purpose.”

LZ: What has God been teaching you recently?

AM: The verse I’ve been using in my support letters is Philippians 1:21, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” … and it has really impacted my heart.

It’s super easy to get caught up in everything else being more important than Jesus—college, pursuing careers, trying to figure out life, finances, every detail … but I truly want to be willing to go wherever God calls me and to not be worried with having everything figured out. As long as my eyes are on Jesus and I’m pursuing an intimate relationship with Him, I believe everything will work out as it’s supposed to.

God has also been providing in crazy ways—I’m a little over 75% way to being fully funded for The Experience! Seeing people want to invest, give in faith and believe in what God is up to in me is so humbling.

“When has He ever not proven Himself to be good and all about loving us?”

LZ: What do you hope God will show you this summer?

AM: I hope to get a clearer picture of how God made me to disciple others, how He wants to use me, what gifts He’s placed in me, and for Him to reveal weaknesses or weak areas that I haven’t seen before. I know weaknesses are going to come out and I’m a little scared, but at the same time it’s so good to be vulnerable with others and God is so glorified through it. It’s like that verse,

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor. 12:9)

I desire that badly … to let God mold me and make me more like Him, even if it’s uncomfortable!

“I want to want Christ with everything, I want to be more like Him!”

LZ: What are your prayers for the 2015 Experience team?

AM: I hope we become a family, genuinely representative of Christ, and an example of what His body looks like. I hope we can encourage each other, push each other to grow closer to Christ, and love each other well … even through the nerves, fear, or distractions the enemy might put in our way.

Also, Jesus chose just 12 ordinary men. When they were dispersed they had a huge impact because Jesus had drawn them close and was intentional with them. I hope that by the end of the summer we can really understand that changing the world happens through being close to God and having intentional relationships … that we would all come out knowing God wants to use us where He’s place us RIGHT NOW (at college, in our jobs, with family, etc.), and that we have a Kingdom family behind us cheering us on!

“I’d love for us to experience more of what the church in Acts was like—living in real community with brothers and sisters in Christ.”
