Small and Big Obedience – Is There a Difference?

The students learned this past week that God uses our small acts of obedience to the Spirit’s leading to usher in the Kingdom of Heaven just as much as He can use the “big ones.”

As the teams returned to Denver from Wander Week, they were filled with excitement over the ways God had given the opporunity to co-labor with Him in. A sense of wonder was also upon them, realizing this lifetime will never reveal the entirety of the kingdom advancement their small and big acts of obedience had. But with the excitement and wonder came a humble brokenness while reflecting on the challenging moments – “How well did I display Christ-centered love and community within my team? How often did I tire and grow weary of following the Spirit’s leading?” Successes and failures will come along the journey, and through them all, may our Father in heaven look and find our hearts turned towards His.

Will you be found faithful in the small and big moments to follow and obey God’s voice?

I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free. Psalm 119:32

“While in Denver, our team happened to meet this young woman named Anna! We discovered that she was a believer in Jesus and had recently been praying for God to bring her Christ-centered community. In meeting our team, she felt like we were a huge answer to her recent prayers and quickly adopted us as family in Christ! She was such a blessing to us and a huge help to our team in introducing us into the city of Denver and helping us navigate some opportunities. Our team realized that we didn’t have to only be reaching out to the lost to be “on mission” – for God sends us to love and bless His children who are far away from Him and close up. We invited Anna to our graduation this Saturday and were thrilled to learn she will be coming! We can’t wait to see her again.“ ~Lauren

"God used a simple bus ride in transit to our team’s next stop in Dallas to love on a guy named Omar. We had no idea how God would take mere beginnings to a conversation and turn it into a Kingdom moment where God’s miraculous love was displayed. Omar had quit his job over a week ago when his responsibilities began to contradict his moral standards. Although not a believer, he was searching and had a lot of questions for us. My team member and I learned a valuable lesson during that conversation: God isn’t as concerned about us spouting the right responses as He is about a guy like Omar being loved. There on that city bus Omar let us pray with him, and he wept the kind of tears you cry when you’ve just been overcome by the love of your Father in Heaven.” ~Devin

“After arriving in Vegas, we realized we had some extra time we could put to use and asked God to help us know where to go. We were scheduled to help a church and it’s food pantry the following day, but decided to go a day early to meet the staff and find the building. Little did we know, God had bigger plans – the food pantry truck had arrived and none of their regular volunteers were able to help! A job that would have taken their small staff hours upon hours to do took our team about half the time. We were amazed at God’s ability to bring us to just the right place at just the right time to be a blessing to their ministry – He can do anything!” ~Trent
